The Remedy to Gluttony

Description or Summary: Gluttony confuses pleasure for happiness. In contrast to gluttony’s
fixation on pleasure we encourage the counter practice of fasting. This not only helps us to spot
the unhealthy ways we approach eating, but aids in putting food in its proper place in the
goodness of God’s creation. As we fast we also increase our appetite for spiritual goods and
increase our dependence on God.
One Sentence: Fasting exposes the false hunger in gluttony and directs us to dependence on
God.
Themes: dependence on God, sacrifice, delighting in God, feasting/supper of the lamb
