Sermon
Description or Summary: Wrath is unbridled anger that seeks to protect and justify self interest
and self advantage. Wrath forms us into people with calloused hearts who, like the Pharisees
and Herodians, use the law as a means to destroy. The anger of Jesus, however, provides the
remedy to wrath by demonstrating a righteous anger that is motivated by love. In his anger,
Jesus grieves with those suffering in the misery of a broken and sinful world. The result is not
murder and destruction but rather the courage for self sacrifice in doing good. In Christ, grieving
together and hoping in God are remedies to wrath and form us into people who share Christ’s
anger.
Themes: Learning God's purpose to direct our anger, grieving together and hoping in God as
remedies to the destruction of wrath.
